ヒンドゥー教の聖典プラーナ(宇宙の創造・破壊・再生、神々の誕生や行い、聖者・王等にまつわる神話）のなかに、“Abhisheka priya Siva-神の御神体を洗う儀式はシヴァ神への敬意を表す-″との記載があります。偉大なるヨギーであるシヴァ神は、タパスと呼ばれる苦行として、自身の内側ですさまじい炎-計り知れない威力、熱力、無限の可能性を持つとされる炎-を燃え上がらせています。

　シヴァ神はこの炎で宇宙を創造し破壊するのです。そして、私たちは癒しや再生、精神的な成長のために各々が実践する苦行(タパス）を通して、新しく創り出される無限のエネルギーの宝庫でもあるシヴァ神の激しい内なる炎に、その誰もが“tap(触れる)"ことができると言われています。

　シヴァ神の破壊的な性質は、私達の知覚を鈍らせる無知のベールを取り除くとされており、そのベールが知識の炎によって燃え尽きる時、人々は無二のsat-chid-ananda(3つのサンスクリット語で真実・意識・幸福の意味)である、“純粋な真実・意識・幸福”の状態になることができるのです。つまり、シヴァ神の破壊力は超越的な平穏をもたらすものなのです。

　シヴァラトリにおいて、信仰者たちはその燃えさかる炎の熱を冷やすためにシヴァ神の御神体を液体をかけて洗浄します。それは、まるで燃え盛る巨大な炎に近づくのと同じように、そのままでは彼の熱のために私達がシヴァ神に近づく事ができないからです。最も伝統的な方法で執り行われるプジャという崇拝の儀式は、シヴァ神に対する献身を表します。その凄まじい内なる炎を冷やすために、ミルク、ヨーグルト、ギー、ハチミツ、砂糖、フルーツジュースといったものを御神体にかけ、その行いはシヴァ神への敬意を示します。

　ここで使われる液状のものはまた、重要な意味を持っており、私たちが日々の生活で行っていること-歩く、夢を見る、深い眠りのなかにあるといった-異なる意識を象徴しています。これら3つの行いを経て“Turiya"と呼ばれる物質世界を超越した精神生活が存在します。それは、変化・変質・外部から作用を受けるものではなく、完全に主体的なものであり、純粋な意識の証とされています。ミルクをかき回せばヨーグルトになり、ヨーグルトからバターができ、バターからギーを作ることができます。最初に行われる3つの儀式が、この流れに値します。初期のウパニシャッドの1つとされる“Chandogya Upanishad(チャンドギャ・ウパニシャッド)”では、ハチミツはその流動性や甘美な輝きから、あらゆる生命自身に例えられています。それゆえ、儀式ではハチミツや砂糖など様々な甘美なものが捧げられ、これは異なるレベルの意識・気づきの意味を示しています。

… In the Puranas (ancient Hindu books of stories regarding the creation of the Universe, of Gods, Sages and Kings etc) there is a saying: “Abhisheka priya Siva” – ritual bathing is dear to Siva. Siva, as the great Yogi, churns within himself tremendous fire, called tapas, which has immense power, heat, and infinite potential. It is through this fire that He creates and destroys the universe. Siva’s intense inner fire is an infinite reservoir of creative energy that anyone can ‘tap’ into through personal tapas for healing, regeneration and spiritual growth. His destructive nature refers to the removal of the veils of ignorance that cloud our perception. When the veils of ignorance are burned away by the fire of knowledge, we can enter into the non-dual reality of sat-chid-ananda, pure truth, consciousness and bliss. Siva’s destruction is one that brings transcendent peace.

During Sivaratri, the devotee bathes Siva in order to cool His burning heat – for if He is too hot, he is difficult for us to approach, like approaching a huge roaring fire. Ritual worship, called puja, in its most pure manner, is done to please the Lord. Siva has an intense inner fire, so bathing Him with cooling substances such as milk, yogurt, ghee, honey, sugar and fruit juices is said to be pleasing to Him.

The substances also have inner significance, and represent the different states of consciousness which we experience daily: waking, dreaming, deep sleep. There is also a plane of existence beyond these three, called Turiya, which is transcendent, and is not a state as it has no change, transformation, or object – it is purely subjective, pure witness consciousness. Milk, if churned, turns to yogurt; from yogurt we can make butter, and then ghee. These are the first three states. In the Chandogya Upanishad, honey is compared to the Self of all beings, due to its liquid, golden sweetness, so all of the sweet things offered, such as honey, sugar and the like, signify the different levels of Self awareness. ...

11月2日よりAshtanga Yoyogiは現在の代々木上原から、表参道「TAO ZEN STUDIO」へと練習場所を移転することとなりました。

表参道駅B4出口２分

移転により皆さんの中にはスタジオが遠くなってしまう方や、逆に便利になる方がいらっしゃることと思います。いずれにしても皆さんが変わらずプラクティスを続けられることを願うとともに、新しいスペースから明るく清浄で平穏なエネルギーが皆さんにもたらされることを祈ります。

代々木上原での最終クラスは10/31（月）です。11/1（火）はクラスはお休みとし、新しいスタジオでのクラスは11/2（水）からスタートします。

代々木上原のスタジオに置いてあるマットは10/31（月）までにお持ち帰りください。当日そのまま残されたマットは処分します。もしマットを持ち帰りたい場合はクラス開講中にお願いします。その他の時間にスタジオへ入ることは出来ませんのでご注意ください。

週5パスの価格改定をおこないました。

今後は￥19,000とします。これまでどおり初心者から上級者まで、どなたでもご参加いただけます。

from november 2, 2011 Ashtanga Yoyogi morning mysore classes will be held at the TAOZEN STUDIO. only 2 minutes from exit B4 of Omotesando station.

i realize that for some of you this may mean a longer trip to get to the studio, for some of you this may be more convenient. Whatever the case i do hope you can continue your practice with us and enjoy the new energy at our clean, bright and peaceful new practice space.

the last day of regular classes at the yoyogi studio will be monday 10/31. there will not be class in tuesday 11/01 and classes will begin at the new studio on wednesday 11/02.

all yoga mats must be out of the yoyogi studio by the end of class on 10/31. any mats left at the studio will not be returned. if you have to pick your mat up, please do so during class time. it is not OK to enter the studio at other times.

our 5 day ticket cost has been reduced to ¥19,000. as always we welcome beginners, advanced students and anyone in between.

mat storage will be available for a fee of ¥2000 for a 3 month period.

I have started many projects and come up with lots of ideas that never really got past the planning stages. SOULJERKY was one of them. We did do a t-shirt project called "GENTLY DOWN", where we took 108 shirts we designed and printed on trip up the ganges river and up to the himalayas to be "bathed, beaten and blessed". But my creative partner Spiros and i stopped talking to each other half way up to the glacier where the Ganges begins called Gomuhk. Then half the shirts got got left on the monsoon soaked runway of Mumbai airport after the plane skidded off the runway.

The shirts survived, and so did our friendship. but that was the last project for the souljerky team.

Without a doubt, the coolest shop in Yoyogi Hachiman. Tsukikageya owner natsuki hand draws and designs all the patterns for her one of a kind yukatas, obis and tenuguis. The one i wear in my official profile photo was a gift from a student a few years ago when i got my first Japanese visa.She changes themes every year, last year it was MONEY. This year it is YAKUZA. Summer is coming, time to prepare for hanabi! (not hanabi)

It was in the spring of 2009. I had just finished teaching a yoga class at a health club in Manhattan, when a man who had been waiting by the door entered and began to do his own practice. I immediately took note of his uncommon form. He was moving and breathing just as I had seen demonstrated by Srivatsa Ramaswami and A.G. Mohan, two notable students of Krishnamacharya’s. I begged the man’s pardon for interrupting, but asked if he wouldn’t mind my asking where he had learned to practice in such a way.
“I learned in Madras, back in the 70s,” he said. “May I ask, from whom?” I inquired, to which he replied, “You probably haven’t heard of him.” I believe I then said, “Try me.” I was soon glad I had persisted; much to my delight, he said he had studied with “a man named Krishnamacharya.” ... continued online...

What is the connection between Kundalini and Realisation?

Kundalini is the intelligence of the universe manifesting as Prana in the physical organism. Which, upon reaching the brain center, releases the Cosmic Intelligence, enabling one to be enlightened, or—to be unburdened of all the residual hang-ups which exist in the subconscious. It cleans out everything. And by such a process one can eliminate all the stuff that one would normally have to go through therapy to eliminate. But as it doesn’t happen to everybody, there has to be step-by-step therapy ‘en route’ as it were.

So when you are having Kundalini effect when things are just happening, that is stuff clearing out?

2009年、私は北インド～ヒマラヤを巡る旅「ナマルパ・

マハー・ヤトラ」への日本からの参加者の引率を務め、他8名の日本からの参加者、およびアメリカ・ヨーロッパからの30人ものメンバーと共に一生に一度とも言える経験を果たしました。

そして来年2012年1月、南インドの歴史的・宗教的に重要な寺院を巡るナマルパ・ツアーへ日本からのグループとして再び参加することを決定しました。もちろん今回のヤトラにも毎日のヨガ・プラクティス、美味しいベジタリアンの食事、そして地元のスワミや指導者によるレクチャーが含まれています。

１月３日（火）　～チェンナイ
１月３日夜までにチェンナイ集合。ホテルにチェックイン、就寝。大冒険の始まりです！
１月４日（水）　～チェンナイ
ヤトラメンバーとの顔合わせとミーティング。ヤトラの旅程、日々のスケジュール、現地の習慣などについて説明。その後、寺院訪問の際に着用が必要な南インドの衣服を購入しに行きます。
１月５日（木）　～ティルヴァンナーマライ　移動：185Km３時間
早朝プラクティス。素晴らしい経験に満ちた旅とその安全をガネーシャ神に祈るため寺院を訪問。美しい南インドの田園と太古の岩山の中をバスで向かいます。
１月６日（金）　～ティルヴァンナーマライ
アルナーチャラ山の麓にある、火の元素としてのシヴァ神を祀る壮大なアルナーチャレスヴァラ寺院を訪問。アルナーチャラ山を登りかつてラーマーナ・マハリシがいたアシュラムを訪問します。
１月７日（土）　～オーロヴィル/パーンディッチェーリ　移動：170Km 3.5時間
早朝プラクティスの後、海岸線へと南下しシュリ・オーロビンド・アシュラムのあるパーンディッチェーリ連合区（旧表記ポンディシェリ）へと向かいます。その後国際色豊かなオーロヴィルを訪れます。
１月８日（日）　～オーロヴィル/パーンディッチェーリ
プラクティスを集中的に行う日。プラクティス後は海岸や手工芸品のショッピングなどでリラックスした時間を過ごします。
１月９日（月）　～チダンバラム　移動：66Km 1時間
早朝プラクティス後、バスでチダンバラムへ。宇宙の舞踏神ナタラジャとしてのシヴァ神を祀るユニークな寺院を訪れます。
１月１０日（火）　～チダンバラム
空の元素としてのシヴァ神を太古から祀るディクシタール・ブラフミンのコミュニティを訪れ、彼らのガイドで寺院での儀礼に参加します。
１月１１日（水）　～タンジャヴル＆シュリランガム　移動：147Km 3時間
内陸へと向かいます。奇跡的な建築物ブリハデーシュヴァラ寺院を訪れた後、ティルチラッパリにて宿泊。
１月１２日（木）　～シュリランガム
１９０エーカー(およそ77万㎡)もの広大な敷地の中に21のゴプラム（門塔）や数え切れないほどの社を有するランガナタスワミ寺院、そしてその近隣にある水の元素としてのシヴァ神を祀るジャムブケシュヴァラム寺院を訪れます。
１月１３日（金）　～カライククディ＆ラメシュヴァラム　移動：234Km 5時間
このヤトラ最長の移動へと旅立ちます。途中料理で有名な都市チェッティナドでランチをとり、夕方頃ラメシュヴァラム島へ到着します。
１月１４日（土）　～ラメシュヴァラム
インドに１２あるジョティ・リンガム（シヴァ神の力により自然に出来たと言われるリンガ）の一つ、ラマナタスワミ寺院を訪問。日の出の海で身体を清め砂浜で砂のリンガを礼拝、その後寺院内の22個の井戸の水を浴びながら最奥へと進みシヴァ神と出会うのがこの寺院での伝統的な参拝の仕方です。
１月１５日（日）　～マドゥライ　移動：170Km 3.5時間
本土へ戻り女神ミーナクシーで有名なマドゥライの寺院街へ向かいます。寺院には夕方参拝、その後宿泊。
１月１６日（月）　～マドゥライ
プラクティス後は、寺院散策やそれを取り囲むバザールでこの旅最後のショッピングなどをして過ごします。夕方はさよならパーティーで南インドのごちそうをいただきます。
１月１７日（火）　～チェンナイへのフライト～帰国、または旅の続きへ
１７日（火）夜の便でチェンナイを出発します。もしチェンナイ滞在を希望する場合は自費となります。宿泊施設予約のご案内が可能です。

注意：この旅程はおおよその予定です。インド旅行では予想外の出来事がたびたび起こるため、旅程変更の可能性があることをあらかじめご留意ください。

ヤトラ、ティルタ、ダルシャン
長大なインドの神話「プラナス」、そこには数え切れない程のインドの神々や女神達のスリリングなお話と共に、この宇宙の創造についてが描かれています。「プラナス」で語られる地理は現在のインド亜大陸全土と一致しています。これらの場所は単に古代の物語に登場する場所として認知されているだけでなく、たくさんの寺院や建造物が存在する現在も生きた場所であり、今でも大勢の人々が「ヤトラ」＝「巡礼の旅」でそこを訪れています。祀られた神や女神への伝統的な礼拝が神聖な最奥で何百年もの間、毎日繰り返されています。

このような神聖な言い伝えの残る場所は「ティルタ」と呼ばれます。「ティルタ」は直訳では川の浅瀬や交差箇所を意味しますが、より神々の存在を直感、認識、経験することが出来る、スピリチュアルな存在が交錯する場所という意味でもあります。

厳格な「ヴァストゥ（＝伝統的な空間・建築設計の規則）」に従って設計された、南インドの荘厳な寺院建築。その多くが「ゴプラム」と呼ばれる巨大な門塔を有しており、毎日多くのヒンドゥの巡礼者たちが「ゴプラム」をくぐり抜け寺院の際奥へと至り、手厚く祀られた神や女神を「ダルシャン」＝参拝しています。

タミル・テンプル・ヤトラ
今回の「タミル・テンプル・ヤトラ」の目的は、神聖な寺院を可能なだけ訪れ、また許可を得られた場合は、そこで行われる神々への祭礼に参加することです。ですからこのヤトラは通常の観光旅行ではありません。シンプルなインド式の宿泊施設に滞在し、食事は菜食で、服装や行動も現地の慣習にかなったものとします。

可能な場所ではアーサナや瞑想などヨガの実践を行い、また旅での私達の経験について話し合ったり説明を受ける機会を設けます。また地元の司祭によって行われる儀礼・祭礼への参加も予定しています。
場所によっては観光やショッピング、散策など通常の観光を楽しめる時間もあります。スケジュールは余裕のあるリラックスしたペースで組んでいますが、そこはインドです。想定外をあらかじめ想定しておきましょう。

まず手始めにチェンナイで集合後、旅の準備を行う時間を設けています。寺院を訪れるための正式な服装を購入し、ヤトラを有意義なものにするための現地のさまざまな習慣やルール、また、ふさわしい行動・態度などの説明を受けます。

料金に含まれるもの
「ヤトラ」総日数１５日間への参加費用。初日と最終日は到着および出発日となります。費用はリーズナブルに抑えたいと思いますが、同時に皆さんには快適に宿泊して欲しいとも考えています。充分快適ですが贅沢を廃したインドスタイルの宿泊施設で過ごします。食事は南インド伝統の菜食です。栄養は充分ですがスパイシーでとても辛いので、辛さを抑えて欲しいと頼んでみるのも良いでしょう。移動はバスです。寺院への入場料も含まれます。

インドへの往復航空券（希望の方には旅行会社をご紹介します）、ビザ取得費用、空港使用料、チップや寺院でのお賽銭（バスの運転手およびアシスタント、また現地の司祭やガイドをお願いする際のチップなどはその都度追加で徴収します）。私的に購入必要なものなど。

このヤトラになくてはならない存在、ムンバイ在住のガイド、ラダクンダ・ダスが文字通り「全て」のコーディネートを行ってくれます。このヤトラの引率、およびインド哲学などについての解説は、南北インドを幾度も巡礼している経験豊かなロバート・モーゼス（Namarupa共同発行人）です。ボストンでヨガを指導しているケイト・オドネルがアーサナのインストラクターおよびアーユルヴェーダ・アドヴァイザーを務めます。

a definite trend has developed over the past few weeks. i notice that when there is an earthquake the night before between 11:00-3:00 there are a lot less students in class the next morning. i suppose that is because it's difficult to get back to sleep for a while and people are pretty exhausted when it is time to get up.
for the first couple of weeks, when an aftershock would wake me up i would go to my laptop "command center" and check all the meteorological sites for data on size, epicenter location and tsunami warnings. now, i just wake up for a few minutes and go back to sleep when my apartment stops swaying.
i never experienced and earthquake before i came to live in japan. now suddenly a 3 or 4 on the scale is like a belch. perspective, ne.
